As seen in the Scene

Recently in the Cleveland Scene:

The Lake Erie Screw Factory (13000 Athens Ave., Lakewood) has taken an artistic turn since the departure of the Lake Erie Screw Corporation, with a couple of dozen artists and artisans working in studios there. The former industrial space is out of the way and has plenty of room for undisturbed work, unless the artists invite you in for open-studio days. Gina DeSantis is taking another tiny step in the building’s adaptive re-use, offering classes in her ceramics studio. She starts a five-week session Tuesday, in which she’ll teach hand-building techniques — building with coils and slabs — to make functional objects. Included in the $130 cost is a 25-pound bag of clay, plus the glazes and kiln time you’ll need during the class. Classes are from 7-9 p.m. through July 28.
