Holiday Open Studio November 2nd

The Screw Factory Artists’ will be opening their doors from noon-6pm on Saturday, November 2nd. We are excited this for our next event as we have welcomed a handful of new studio artists in the building. This year we welcomed Lori Paximadis (jewelry), Jennifer Szalkowski (glass fusing), Burning River Candle Co/Terra Verde Handmade and ceramics artist Lauren Herzak-Bauman on floor 3. Floor 2 welcomes another ceramicist, Richard Schneider. We also have some new visitors joining us.  Stop by and spend the day shopping for art, have a glass of coffee, juice or wine (or all of the above!) and some delicious food from Jibaro Food Truck and Rosy Girl Baked Goods. There is a wine tasting on floor 2 with residents Humble Bee Vineyards.

Arabella Proffer (C288) was featured recently on Cleveland.com (as an online preview to her Plain Dealer Friday magazine feature). She also appeared this month in art news website Hyperallergic’s A View From The Easel series.

Proffer will be teaching fashion illustration classes for adults in her studio this fall. These classes are new, and similar to her popular childrens’ classes at BAYArts. Click the link for details.

Save the Dates: Two Open Studio Events

Our annual holiday open studio will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 12:00pm-6:00pm.* This event will include over forty artists who work out of studios in the factory. A list of artists will be available in September.

*Please note there is no call to artists for this event. This event showcases the resident artists.

The Last Minute Market & Open Studio will be held on Saturday, December 21st from 10:00am-6:00pm. This is open to visiting artists. It is a juried show and you must apply to be considered. Last Minute Market sellers will be chosen from the applications received. There is a non-refundable fee to submit an application. Not everyone who applies will be selected for the event; historically, the application process has been competitive. All sellers must exhibit items they made themselves. The selection committee will be looking to fill openings in the show with creative and innovative, well-made, modern craft, artwork, and wares from sellers with positive and professional personalities

Wheel Throwing Classes at the Screw Factory

All levels wheel throwing classes are now available at Gina DeSantis Ceramics. Open studio work time is also available. This classroom hopes to further awareness, understanding and appreciation of the ceramic arts. Gina has taught for over a decade at various non profits in Cleveland but decided it was time to open her own classroom. Current classes focus on teen and adult levels but children’s classes will be added in the fall.

Taste of Lakewood 2013

Sunday, June 2nd from 4-7pm. The VIP Party is held from 3-4pm on floor 3.

The Screw Factory Artists are excited to open their doors during this years Taste of Lakewood Event held at the building. This event is hosted by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and brings together 25 Lakewood restaurants. Many of the studios will be open during the event and artwork will be available for purchase.

This is a ticketed event. Please visit the Taste of Lakewood website for information on how to purchase tickets.

The Screw Factory artists open their doors as a group again on Saturday, May 4th. (We open the first Saturday in May and November.) A list of participating artists both resident and visiting with be available in April.  *Please note there is no call to artists for this event. Studio artists pick their visiting artists. 

The Last Minute Market is usually the last Saturday before Christmas. Stay tuned for more info in the coming months. When the application for Last Minute Market is available in the fall it will be posted on this site.

Clay Studio with Gina DeSantis

Thursday evenings. 6:30-9:00pm. $150 (includes one 25lb bag of clay, all glazes and firings). Additional bags of clay may be purchased during class (stoneware $15, porcelain $20).
March 21, 28, April 11, 18, 25. No class April 4th.

This class will focus on wheel throwing and hand building methods in clay both separately and in tandem. Beginners will learn the basics of throwing cups, bowls and crafting handles. More seasoned students will learn larger forms such as serving bowls, vases and lidded vessels. Hand building functional forms such as trays will also be covered. Each class will include a demonstration however students are welcome to work independently on projects each week.

No refunds will be given without 7 days notice before the start date of the class. For example, the start date is March 21 therefore unless you contact me by Thursday, March 14 then you will not receive a refund. I cannot prorate the fee if you are going to miss a class. In the future I will have more classes and opportunities for make up dates however for this session I cannot offer make up dates. As classes expand, more opportunities will become available.
